Moving through our lives we often encounter moments of stress on a daily basis. And while a certain amount of stress for a short period of time can be beneficial, most of us experience higher stress levels than what is considered to be healthy. Every experience that we have leaves an imprint on the body, which means that the stress we experience throughout our lives is stored in the body. The neck and shoulders are very common places for the body to store stress but our hips also hold on to a lot of tension.
In the hips we find our Psoas muscle, the main muscle responsible for the “fight or flight” response of the body. When you experience mental or emotional stress the psoas will respond by contracting and tightening, which can manifest itself in discomfort, fatigue, tightness and pain in the lower back and hips but also restricts our ability to breathe freely. When we don’t find ways to release this tension the Psoas muscle stays in this state of contraction, keeping the body in a state of stress.
In this One Day Retreat we will find different ways to bring more understanding to how the Psoas relates to stress and relates to your body. Working with Somatic Movement, Tension Release Exercises (TRE) and Yin Yoga to provide you the practical tools to release the tension in the Psoas and bring our nervous systems back to a state of balance. Easy to use movements and methods that you can take home with you to help you to release the stress that we have been storing inside. Leading to more range of motion in the body, less tightness and discomfort, feeling more grounded and relaxed and activating the selfhealing capacity of the body. Lower stress levels and a “happy” psoas will benefit your health in so many ways!
